Chariots of Fire (1981) is based on a true story set around the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, portraying the convictions and efforts of two young runners.
Harold Abrahams, who strives for victory in the face of antisemitic prejudice, and Eric Liddell, a devout Christian determined to remain faithful to his beliefs. Each man approaches the Olympic challenge with different motivations.
Liddell refuses to compete on the Sabbath out of religious conviction, while Abrahams persists through discrimination with relentless effort. As their convictions intersect, both athletes experience moments of glory and inner conflict.
Accompanied by Vangelis’s memorable music, the film quietly reflects on the value of perseverance and belief.
